A visual wonderland…

Hello again ds106-ers!  Hope you all had another wonderful week.  This one was a busy one for me.  I took the physics GRE this weekend.  I have been spending a lot of free time studying for that, so now that it’s over with, I feel FREE!!!!  But seriously…

This week was all about visuals…visual assignments, watching the wire without sound, etc.  Let’s jump right into the weekly rundown…

Visual Assignments:

For my 12 stars of visual assignments this week, I tried to choose a variety of assignments.  The first one I did was the “Story Map” assignment.

Story Map Assignment

This assignment was not that challenging, as the application walked you through everything.  However, I still cannot get the embed code to work on wordpress.  As I did in the original post, I will link to the direct work again here.  The reason I chose to create this based around my honeymoon is simple: It was hands down the most awesome trip of my life.  I mean, I was there with my wife, on a beautiful island, having dinner on the beach almost every night.  It was perfect.

Next up, I did the “Redoing a Past Pose” assignment.  This was a fairly straightforward “hold the picture up and look like myself” style of getting it done.  As I mentioned in the original post, I apparently didn’t wear a lot of clothes as a kid, and this isn’t that kind of class, so finding an appropriate picture was a little tough, but I’m happy with the outcome.  I only look slightly older I think.

Next, I did the “Common Everyday Object” assignment.  Here’s the breakdown from my original post:

Hi guys!  So I decided to do the “Common everyday object” assignment.  I took a few photos of things around the office and around school.  What I finally decided to do was to edit a photo of one of the most bittersweet moments in my college path thus far.  So last semester, my physics friends and I had to take Physics Advanced Lab, which was a gruelingly intense laboratory course that saw many of us set up shop in the physics department computer lab on the 4th floor of Jepson.  Towards the end of the semester, as we were all rushing to get lab reports finished and turned in, many of us began spending more and more hours in that computer lab.  One of my friends turned 21 sitting right there in that lab.  We celebrated for approximately 30 seconds, then promptly got back to lab reports.  This photo is a shot of what my workstation looked like sometime in the middle of a 48 hour no-sleep-lab-bender (yep, you read that right.  48 hours straight without sleep).  You can see the multiple flavors of Monster Energy drinks behind my terminal, and the multiple computers I was using.  Just out of the frame was the pizza we had delivered.  And underneath that was the pizza box from the night before.

As far as the creation here goes, I decided to play around with the saturation and the colors a little bit in iPhoto.  I finally decided on this combination which gives it a bit of an antique kinda faded photo look.

Lastly, I did the “Album Cover” assignment.  Hilarity ensued…

WOW!  This assignment could not have turned out any more hilarious!  I decided to do the “An album cover” assignment and man-o-man was it funny!  The assignment had a link to a random wikipedia article, a random list of quotes, and a random list of flickr pics from the last 7 days.  The idea is to have the wikipedia article be your bands name, the last 4-5 words of the last quote be the album title, and the 3rd image on flickr be the album art.  This combination is too good to be true.  If I ever saw an album with cover art like this there would be absolutely no hesitation.  I would buy that in a heartbeat.  Enjoy folks…

As for my daily creates this week:

I fist did the “What’s playing on the radio” assignment.

Hey guys!  This is my daily create assignment for today!  I tried to find something interesting on fm 106.something.  Here’s the result…

btw, Known was giving me a real problem with this…I’m not a fan of it right now…

Secondly, I did the  “Ambient Noise” assignment yesterday:

And last but certainly not least, here is the link to my photoblitz, by far one of the most fun assignments I have done thus far.

As always, I hope everyone has a great week.  Until next time…
